Both the thalamus and hypothalamus are important parts of the human brain that are situated very near to each other. The location of the thalamus is in the middle of the central core of the brain. As for the hypothalamus, it is a very tiny part, almost the size of a finger tip, present inside the brain and is located just below where the thalamus is located.

As far as functions of the thalamus are concerned, it is the segment that plays a significant part in the brain, acting as a busy relay station. This is done mainly for the information that deals with the senses. Regarding the hypothalamus, it is that part of the brain that contributes towards the maintainence of the state of homeostasis. Moreover the hypothalamus also plays a vital role in the regulation of significant and basic behavior of the human body or normal body functions such as eating, walking and drinking.
