The rupee is the monetary unit of account used in countries including India, Pakistan, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Mauritius, Seychelles etc. However, 'rupee' is pronounced and named different depending on which language you are speaking in. E.g. Rupee is "rupia" in Spanish and "taka" in Bengali.
The question you are asking depends on which currency and which country you are referring to. For example, in India, the official currency used is the Indian rupee where 1 rupee is subdivided into 100 paise. People in India sometimes refer to the paisa as "Naya-Paisa" (new-money) to signify the new currency from the old one. The Indian rupee is issued and controlled by the Reserve Bank of India.
In Pakistan, the official currency is the Pakistani rupee and like in India, 1 rupee is subdivided into 100 paise but larger values are counted in terms of thousands, lakh (100 thousand, in digits 1,00,000) and crore (10 million, in digits 1,00,00,000). The Pakistani rupee is issued and controlled by the State Bank of Pakistan.
Both the Mauritian and Sri Lankan rupees are divided into 100 cents whereas the Nepalese rupee subdivides into 100 paisa. In the Maldives, the currency used is the rufiyah (for notes) and Laaris (for coins). One rufiya is equivalent to 100 Laaris and are available in the denominations of 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 500. The best solution is to research the currencies you want to find out about before logging on to cash converter sites e.g. Xe.com to help track down your question.

Ahahay... This question is reminiscent of the, "Which is heavier - a kilogram of iron or a kilogram of cottons?"

Might as well answer this: One Million Rupees.
