What Is Sclerotic Density?

Sclerotic density can have one of two meanings. To explain these meanings, it is best to take a closer look at the definitions of sclerotic and density on their own.

• Definition of sclerotic

The term sclerotic has two definitions, the first one of which being or relating to the sclera. The sclera is defined as the tough, fibrous outer covering of the eyeball, it is basically the white of the eye.

The second definition of sclerotic describes it as relating to or being affected by a condition known as sclerosis, which is a hardening of tissue or other features of an individual's anatomy.

• Definition of density

Density is the mass or weight per unit of volume of any substance at a given temperature and pressure, or the quantity per unit measure, in particular volume, area or length of something.

• Sclerotic density

Sclerotic density could therefore either refer to the mass of an eyeball, or or it could refer to the hardening or formation of fibroid material within tissue or other parts of the body.

The expression sclerotic density T6, for instance, could indicate a hardening or fibroid formation, and the mass or size thereof, on or of the sixth thoracic nerve, which passes out below the sixth thoracic vertebrae.

The spinal, or vertebral column consists of 33 vertebrae, if four coccygeal vertebrae are assumed. The vertebrae are categorized as, starting from the top, seven cervical and 12 thoracic vertebrae, as well as five lumbar and five fused sacral vertebrae. The four fused coccygeal vertebrae form the tailbone.

• Serpiginous sclerotic densities

The term serpiginous is often used to refer to chronic medical conditions. It signifies a slow progression or advancement. Serpiginous sclerotic densities could subsequently indicate the presence of a slowly advancing or increasing hardening of tissues, etc, in a body.
