There are many countries that sit inside in the tropical zone, and the list spans from Algeria to Zimbabwe.

What countries are in the tropics?

The zone of the tropics spans the globe, from central Mexico across to Northern Australia, and it includes the majority of the African continent.

The single largest country in the tropical zone (in terms of area) is probably Brazil, whilst the most populated is India.

What is the tropical zone?
The tropical zone (also known as the torrid zone) is an area of the planet that stretches along either side of the equator - between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn.

Currently, more than 40% of the world's population lives within this zone - and this figure is expected to climb.

Although the word 'tropical' is often used to describe climates that are hot, wet and humid - the tropical zone includes areas that are extremely dry, especially along the equator.

The sun sits directly above the tropical zone at least once a year - and this is the main reason for the high temperatures that the region experiences.
