If you want to change your nose piercing jewelry, then you will have to wait longer than four weeks. A nose piercing can take as little as three months to heal completely, though on occasion can take a little longer. Hence, to be on the safe side, it might be a good idea to leave the piercing in for between 60 and 90 days. Do remember, though, that you’ll only be benefitting yourself if you wait a little longer than that. This is because your piercing won’t have healed in such a short amount of time.

During the healing process, you don’t want to be changing the jewelry because this can jeopardize the risk of you being sanitary and clean. By removing and swapping jewelry, you are putting yourself at huge risk of infection. By moving the piercing, you can cause bad bacteria and other contaminants to enter the wound in the skin, resulting in some rather nasty infections.

Furthermore, try and avoid moving the jewelry around, or playing with it when you’re bored. You need to try and keep the jewelry in pretty much the same position to avoid irritating the wound. Essentially, avoid affecting the wound and piercing in any way for three months, and you’ll be able to change the ring to your heart’s content.

When cleaning your piercing, a key tip is to never use alcohol. Try not to remove the jewelry when you clean it, too. Make sure you’re using a saline solution to keep the jewelry clean.

I have my nose pierced and the exact same thing happened to mine!!  I went back to where I got it pierced and they gave me a different nose ring and also changed it for me.  But you're supposed to wait 6 weeks before you take out the nose ring so that  the hole should be completely healed.  And make sure you follow the instructions they give you to clean it because it WILL get infected if you don't. Good luck!!!

I have read all of these answers and I think that pencil should really keep their opinions to themselves.  If you don't like piercings and tattoos why the heck are you on this website?  I think that it looks good on most people, I am not into all the big hoops myself.  I have wanted to do it for three years and finally did it.  I am a 30 year old stay at home mom and full time student to become a nurse.  My kids watched it get done and they like it and understand that they must be 18 if they ever want it done.  Oh yeah and I have three tattoos and going for my 4th and th next month.  Does not change who I am as a person or a mother to my children, they are my life and ultimately what comes first.  They don't look at me any different then they did before.  So if you don't like piercings "pencil" find a I hate piercings web site and stay off this one

For a nose piercing you should wait 6 - 8 weeks until it is healed.  If you need to change it before that time then you can as long as you do not leave it out for an extended period of time because the hole will close fast.  If you can't change it then go back to where you got it pierced to get it done.  If you do it yourself make sure the ring is clean as well as your hands and nose.  Really work on making everything sterile because it will get infected and sometimes places like your nose the infection will last a while.

Make sure your nose is fully healed before you try to put a stud in.  I have seen it many times where the hole closes over the stud because the stud is smaller then an actual piercing ring.

A) Piercers usually suggest 6-8 weeks. Two weeks after getting mine done, I dryed my face with a towel and accidentally pulled it out. I was able to sterilize it and put it back in with no problem.
B) I purchased a nose ring from Walmart-my nose was sore and infected the next day. My piercing was 1 year old at the time. Never again.
C) I got my nose pierced at the age of 43. At the time I owned a National Nextel Dealership. I am a fairly conservative woman--but I wanted a tiny little diamond stud.
D) On my 48th birthday, I got a second nose piercing- in the same nostril. You know what I realized  "Pencil", I didn't do many things in my youth because I was concerned about what my parents would say, as I got older it was what my employer would say, and then--believe it or not-- what my children would say.  I didn't think twice about the second piercing- because I finally feel comfortable enough to please myself, I am a kind, warm, considerate person and that's what people remember when they meet me--AND my piercings.

Oh dear Pencil, I've just come back home from visiting my husbands family in Pakistan and can attest to the fact that most women there do not have a cute little stud... They all had blaringly huge diamond bling in there noses....And as is the custom there I got my white honker pierced to show of my married status does that make me ridiculous as well?

I love my nose ring. It very pretty! It a pink diamond. I got it re pierced yesterday. Well I had it done last weekend but I got something in my eyes and what I did was a big mistake. I took a towel and wipe my eyes  and the towel somehow got caught in the caring and took it out when I try grabbing it it fell in the sink. So basically my nose hole closed. I didn't have time to buy any extra before because I had so much homework for college which I should of so I just pierced it on the opposite side. I got my left side done. I like it a lot and Pencil if you don't like it then don't read this and don't be on this site. It sad how much judgmental you are.  I LOVE MY NOSE PIERCED! IT CUTE!:)

I'm going to wait 6 weeks after reading this forum....but I will tell you this for the person saying that nose rings only look good on certain people...that is not true ..and thier are many kinds of rings that can be put in,some like the hoop kind...I like the shiny jewels..for the younger crowd thier are little butterflys and things...its everyone to thier own, opinions are like assholes everyone has one,and no one reads a Encyclopedia ,when they get a nose ring. This forum was about when to change a nose ring out,and here you come trying to make people feel bad for having nose rings when our lifes has nothing to do with yours or your opinion so keep it to yourself last time I looked this is america the land of the free, and quiet frankly nobody cares just what you think....so you can take your opinion and stick it where the sun don't shine.

If you keep on touching and playing with it and taking it out every minute before it heals, you will have to wait about 5-4 months before changing your stud for a new one.If you take care of it well like cleaning it three times a day,I am sure it will take 3 months to heal up.Remember,do not OVER-CLEAN your piercing. It can cause damages which won't heal quickly or even worse,it won't heal.Don't rub alcohol or anything not advised by a well trained piercer as it will only irritate your piercing. If you keep it super clean and germ free,it's obvious that it will only take 2-3 months to heal up.I hope this answer will work with you.Good-Luck.

Usually nose piercings take 6-8 weeks to heal. 6 weeks after getting my nose done I changed the stud quiet often, Since we're not aloud piercings at school I've had to keep taking it out and it would've closed up by the time I got home so I would have to re-peirce it. As long as you clean it often it should be fine and not get infected. :D

I had to take mine out 2-3 days after I got it pierced because I didn't realize when I went to have wisdom teeth pulled out I wasn't aloud to wear metal? So I went back and the guy put in a clear one for me and I think I changed it back maybe a week or so later. A year later the hole closed on the inside because I didnt get a long enough post "/ oh well I'm thinking of getting mine re done but out of all the piercings I've done my nose by far hurt the most "/

I was told to Wash it with 8oz of bottled water with 1/4 tsp. Of Natural sea salt, 3 or 4 times a day. And in 2 to 3 months it would be completely healed. If its not bothering you you can change it as soon as it is not red, swollen or if it is not infected,  I got mine done 3 days ago and its going great! And for you Pencil. Go fly a kite. No body wants to hear your uppity bull. I'm from a very classy family and they all like it! Also as for permanently disfiguring its not. It can be removed and will heal eventually.

I pierced my own nose about two weeks ago and I keep an extremely tiny and adorable stud in during the day but it falls out when I sleep so I change it every night for a larger stud and I have not had any infections or soreness, probably the least painful piercing I have had to date. But I think it really depends on the person, if you have good hygiene and you heal quickly then it is okay to change it as soon as the redness (and if in your case, swelling) goes away. If not I would suggest waiting a few weeks until you think it is safe. Typically, your own judgement is good enough.

I am a 25 yr old mother and wife and I got mine pierced a week ago. I love it and think it's all in what you want and what makes you happy. I think it's cute and my hubby loves it. I am concidering changing it out soon though for a nose screw cause the bone keeps coming out on me very easy. I want one I saw at wal-mart but I was told to stay away from wal-mart's body jewelry. Anyone have an opinion??

I too am a 35 year old mother of 3 and wife. My husband wasnt very sold on the idea of my nose piercing until I just did it and he absolutely loves it! Also, my I add that I have 4 tattoo's and have in the past had a belly button and tounge piercing. I work in a hospital w/ direct patient contact and have never been looked down upon or insulted for being an individual and expressing myself w/ piercings or bodyart. Usually 4-8 weeks-plain water and antibacterial soap, no ointments or peroxide.

Idk how long ago this was written but i wouldn't use walmart jewelry or get any kind of piercing there...i had my ears pierced 3 times there and each time i got an infection but when i got my nose pierced professionally it healed perfectly. But in the end it all comes down to how sensitive you are. Walmart has very cheap metal that contains nickel and many people are actually allergic to it.

I make body jewlery for a living. DO NOT buy any kind of body jewlery from wal-mart. PLEASE. Their stuff is not good quality and will leave your piercing irritated. Yes, it is cheap but that is because it is crap. If you're looking for new jewlery, go to a piercing shop to get your stuff. Or, www.leroi.com that is where I work and our stuff is the best quality around.

Yes the normal is about 6 weeks to change your nose ring.

This guy Pencil would love to meet me I have tattoos and piercing in my nose I am a mother of 7 and my daughter just got her nose done last week, she is a young teen, it suits her. She knows all the risks and how to clean it and she is a kid going places with her school she is a prefect so I think mate before throwing your unwanted opinion out there take a walk down your nearest shopping center and see all the women and young ladies with this done. Or is it that you are the odd one out you want a tattoo or piercing but haven't manned up and got one?

The ring can be changed in a pierced nose after complete healing of the pierced site. If you are not having any pain, redness or inflammation at the pierced area, then you can change the ring.

Man, you are allowed to take it out to clean it...so just dunk the new ring in hydrogen peroxide and you'll be fine.
And trust me, they don't get infected that easily...
I did mine myself at home and take it out all the time and its perfectly fine.

For what little it is worth, take it out now and let it heal closed. The only people whom I have seen that look very nice, are the Middle Eastern, Asian, and African women who have been doing it for centuries. When they place a tiny stone or jewel just above and behind one nostril, it looks nice and adds a tasteful little bling to their appearances. The nose rings and such I see on the teenagers these days look so ridiculous, I want to put a rope through them and tie it to an Encyclopedia, where it might do some good, by forcing that person to see, if not read the information lodged in there. The nose is another breeding ground for germs and things, and having a festering sore in there, can hardly be good for the entire well being of the person thus pierced! I can hardly believe that I AM  writing this, because I used to be a hippy! However, we were not into gouging, piercing, cutting, and permanently disfiguring ourselves.

People like " Pencil " make me so mad!
Saying other people who aren't African or Asian with nose piercings look bad is so rude! Yes, we all have our own oppinions but if you are going to be trashing and stero-typing teenagers then keep it to yourself. I love piercings on everyone and I hate when people have to judge when they see someone with a piercing. Way to discriminate and try to make us feel unpretty, Pencil.

Linda Susan, Thank you for your sentiment while correcting my English, I generally am grateful to be put straight. I do know the difference between gauge and gouge. Look it up in the Dictionary and Thesaurus. Gouging is also used as slang to mean clip, cut, nick, rip off.....it is pronounced gowj. I do know that all teens do not practice this style. I have a son. He had several friends thus pierced, however I did not say anything to them, it is, after all their body. Be blessed....*p

I am also sorry for being guilty of stereo typing. I am half of a mixed couple and worked beside my father in the civil rights movement in the 50's and 60's. I was merely expressing a personal opinion, and if I came off judgmental, then please accept my apology. I must have answered this on one of my menopausal days and may have been unnecessarily harsh. I actually LOVE young people, they are our hope for the future, and most that I have met, are assets to this society!...*p
