The eight sub-branches of natural science are as follows:

  • Astronomy
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Earth science
  • Physics
  • Oceanography
  • Atmospheric science
  • Materials science

Natural science is the branch of science that is ruled by the natural world by using empirical and scientific method to study the universe.

Natural science is used to distinguish social science from other science. Social science is the study of human behavior and social patterns. It is a human approach to study of the human condition over that of the formal sciences that use math and logic.

Most natural sciences use facts that can be seen in order to be studied. Now, this does not mean that there are not some elements of natural science that are not studied because they cannot be seen. What it means is that microscopes are used for the tinier details or telescopes in the case of astronomy.

Natural also means that anything studied under those sciences occurs without human interference. Chemistry can synthesize natural elements, but it is still a study of what naturally occurs in order to broaden what may not yet exist.

You can believe that natural sciences are formal in that they look at math and logic. Social science can take out logic such as a study of a culture that believes in ghosts. Our brains tell us ghosts do not exist, yet some cultures believe in this. Thus, natural sciences stick with the logical studies within the sub branches named above.

Most of the sub categories deal with items found on the earth or in the earth rather than the sky; with the exception of astronomy of course. Astronomy helps us understand the sky above to better understand the cycles on the earth.
