A sphere is continuous with no edges, so a "face" doesn't really apply and without a face there can be no edges and no vertices.

That is incorrect. A face is a FLAT surface on a 3 dimensional shape. Therfore, a sphere has NO faces, NO vertices, and NO edges. It does however have a curved surface.

This is an interesting question. There are no verticies.
There are no edges.
There are two surfaces. The inside and the outside of the sphere. I asume sphere in the mathmatical sense on not in the solid object sense.
You need to define faces. It has:
0, if you define face as flat surface such as the surface of a prism.
1, if you define face as a the outside surfaces (solid object).
2, if you define a face as a surface.
Infinite, if you define a face as a group of points on a object on to which all have an equal normal.

Zero IF you are using terms used for polyhedra - which are often the general terms shown in primary school maths text books

1) if you want to clarify by stating it is a CURVED face.
