Is there a way to get dirt stains off a carpet if they've been ground in for a while? I really like this carpet and don't want to tear it all out just because of one part.

Not sure but I have tore up carpeting and the worst part is getting all of the many staples out of the floor. On the stairs especially! Oh man it was a never ending flood of stables.

What Id try (if I had this) is "goo gone" which I have had for a long time. It works wonders for getting stuff off. Even though its an old cleaner it is still sold in stores.

Final option: maybe one of those rug cleaner things you rent from walmart?

Have a professional come in and evaluate if it can be cleaned or not.

Well, Im guessing he is saving that option for a last resort. How much does that cost?

The thing is many of the things people use to get out dirt leaves a residue that just attract more dirt. You are better off just going with a professional cleaner. Where I live there is an $80 minimum which would be one room, but 3 rooms is $90, and $119 for three using Stanley Steamer.

I seen, Id take that advice Todd. Maybe he will let us know what ends up happening.
