Dear Thrice Gotcha,

I think most of my unrepeatables have to do with old age also...

For example when I worked at the US Army base Fort Lewis in 1986, south of Seattle, my supervisor and I would run with the soldiers; little young guys whose most strenuous exercise before enlisting was moving computer mice around...

Well we were in our forties and had been jogging since our twenties, and could leave these youngsters in the dust...hand them their lunch...

* * *

So with that context, my answer to your Q is, "outrun a soldier."

Dozy...this answer brought back memories...and the young guys actually enjoyed us, I think!

Alicia, my supervisor, was actually in her fifties...and there we were, these two fine old broads...just a going...we would pass them and wave...they always had BIG smiles for us!

I'm sure most of them did. But there are always exceptions.

I used to get off the early train on the way to work, swim a kilometre, then catch the next train to Sydney. One morning as I left the pool, backpack over my shoulder, a young guy ran past. I realised the train was due and started to run. And overtook him.
He wasn't going to be beaten by somebody my age (I was nearly 50 then) and took off like a rabbit. I ran behind him slapping my feet on the ground so he could hear me, chased him up the stairs and right along the platform to the end as the train came in.
Then, as he stood there gasping for breath I took out an apple and ate it, just to show him that I could, and thanked him for warning me about the train.
I enjoyed that one and had forgotten it till you posted this. :)

Hi
Thrice! It will probably to work in a Casino! I have done it for a few years in
London and it was definitely not the best first experience in a job. It was
challenging and helped me build various skills that will surely come to use in
the future, but it was also very stressful. Dealing with money all the time was
cool, but the joy was always short term. Things would always go missing and if
you cannot balance things out, you pay from your own pocket!
