It's almost impossible to give a single quote, so I'll throw in three.

Facts bring us to knowledge; but stories can lead to wisdom. – Rachel Remen.

Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake. -- Napoleon Bonaparte

Old age is when your soul wants to dance but your feet want to cry. -- Didge

You'd probably like the first one too if I'd taken the trouble to explain it. Rachel Remen was an American physician who, having worked through multiple areas of the medical profession, finally set up a clinic for terminal patients. Some she helped to live, some she helped to die.

She wrote a book about the people she met at that clinic and told their stories. She called it Kitchen Table Wisdom (and it's well worth reading). She said they're the sort of stories we used to share back in the days when we sat around the kitchen table as families, ate together, and shared our experiences.

A remarkable woman.

Every time I sat on the street curb, my mom would yell that at me. I didn't even know what hemorrhoids were.

I almost quoted Josh Billings on silence and arguments but thought you might want to use it.

And, Hippy, my mother always said the same thing --but she said piles.

There are just too many wonderful quotes to single out any one as my favorite. I can't.

That said, let me impart one of the most hopeful quotes I know, this from poet and writer Eve Merriam:

"I dream of giving birth to a child who will ask, Mother, what was war?"

Dear Rex,

I am currently contemplating with great delight two quotes about dancing...

"If I could tell you what it meant, there would be no point dancing it."             ~ Isadora Duncan

"Those who dance are considered insane by those who cannot hear the music."                                                                  ~ George Carlin

1.  Paul
Krugman
: There are two novels that can change a bookish
fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas
Shrugged
. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a
lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an
emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with
the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.

2. "The
man who sets out to carry a cat by its tail learns something that
will always be useful and which never will grow dim or doubtful."

Mark Twain

3.  John Kenneth Galbraith: "The modern conservative is
engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that
is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness."

"If you want to battle wits, first you must have some". -Gator Blu

This came about after someone at a bar kept trying to spar with me. "Mr. Blu" and I weren't married yet and he had never seen me put someone in there place before, and had made a comment about how I won that "battle of wits".
