So I am in need of a watch/device that will: 1. Tell the time. 2. Show me how far I've biked/ran 3. Below 275$ 4. Is fairly low profile I am thinking about a Fitbit tracker, but am unsure?

Along with Gator's excellent suggestion, check out the FitBit Alta tracker. It has what you're looking for along with push notifications for text messaging and phone calls from your mobile device. My wife uses it and loves it. Check it out on Amazon for $129.95 at the link below.

Take a look at the Garmin vívosmart HR+ Regular Fit Activity Tracker. They run about $200, but Amazon has them on sale right now for about $170. It has some good reviews. I haven't used it though.

I have the Fitbit Charge and the step counts can be way off. I drove from Florida to the mountains in North Carolina. After spending 9 hours sitting behind the wheel of my car it said I walked over 12,000 steps and climbed 122 flights of stairs.
