if you get invited to a function that you dont want to attend but feel obligated to becuase of other people insistence would you still go?

Reluctantly, but I'd still go. Like Rooster I'd leave a fast horse tied up outside for a quick getaway.

If that person is someone special to me, so special, in fact, that I don't want to disappoint that person .. That would depend if it means more to the person who is insisting that I go than it means to me.

I would find a way to compromise.

To me, it would all depend on how I feel about the person that invited me. At my age, I don't usually do anything that I prefer not to. I would never want to hurt a close friend's feelings by not attending so I might bite the bullet and go.

No, but then I suffer chronic pain so I have to be true to myself. You could just limit your time, you don't have to stay the full set.

I just faced this situation on Saturday, and no, I didn't go. I made up an excuse about having to work early on Sunday (I have been working Sundays lately, but not early). I'm not saying that's the best way to handle the situation, but that's how I do things.

well it happens to me a lot but i say no because i get annoyed easily it depends on your personality after all
