Is it alright for prison guards and whatnot to threaten to not feed prisoners because they're being too loud even if it's an empty threat?

It doesn't lie in the province of either warders or wardens to deny a prisoner food. Should one threaten to do so he would not only anger the prisoners, he would justly earn their derision.

The prisoners would know it was an empty threat. What else could it be?

Sometimes you are left with no choice but to threaten something drastic to get everyone to listen to you. Some places are run that way - using threats and intimidation to get their point across.

Of course, I don't plan on breaking the law to get me sent to the big house, because I like eating popcorn for supper sometimes. In jail, you don't get a choice.

I didn't ask whether or not it's alright for prison guards to not feed prisoners, I asked whether or not it's alright for prison guards to threaten to not feed them, even if it's an empty threat.
