Interesting. Someone I don't know has chosen to follow me, and has copied my profile word for word - Is imitation the sincerest form of flattery?

It could be interpreted as stalkery.

My two sons and I got a hold of the guy and called the police. Caught him up on her second story deck peeping.

I don't think I would have been able to control myself from tossing him off the deck! Your willpower inspires me.

My boys wanted to toss him but I told them it's better to call the cops. He had a few cuts and bruises when the cops came though.

I'm certain it's not in any way flattery.

IF THE USERNAME IS THE SAME, Knowing the idiots of the web, I am pretty sure that this is someone attempting to impersonate you, get you in trouble, and blame you. Probably the same "it" (It doesn't deserve to be he/she/they) who made you leave first time. Warn the administrators at once.

Well, I don't see them under your followers, either they were
A) Kicked
B) Left
C) Changed the Profile
D) Decided to leave because they had a shred of decencey left.

I'm guessing it's anything BUT (D)

Ah, that's different. That looks not like an impersonator to me. That looks more like an advertising bot which snatched your profile to disguise itself as a real user.

I will admit to studying German multiple time periods previously, but I will not claim to have learned it.

I went back to Germany nearly 20 years after the time when I was travelling around the place. I had forgotten everything. Two weeks later I was back to talking a bit... I'm guessing that I would struggle again now.

It is interesting how language is learned and retained and "resurrected" with re-immersion in the "milieu."

I think saying that they're a stalker would be an exaggeration. They probably liked your profile and thought they'd look good if they had it. Still rude though.

I think I met your friend a few months ago, Ray. Somebody did exactly the same thing to me. I didn't bother to follow him back and don't know who he was or if he stayed. But since his profile was publicising my book I didn't mind.

Imitation can be flattering, but it can be creepy. I worked with someone who was a bit too much like the roommate from the Single White Female. She would find out where I was going out and show up. She would buy similar clothes and she even bought an identical car. It was just creepy.

Also copying your identity, is more like identity theft which is not flattery. I tried to open a twitter account sometime ago, only to find out someone had already opened one using my email. It had been suspended. I changed the password on it using my email, and contacted Twitter. I explained what had happened and asked them to delete the whole thing. I never heard back and last time I checked it was still there, permanently suspended.

Identity theft is atrocious! I had someone use my name in a crime and then the person never showed up to court. I found out my name had a warrant for arrest due to failure to appear on accident! If I would have gotten pulled over they would have impounded my car, arrest me and take my kids if they were in the car with me! I had to put myself on calendar at the courthouse in the city where the said crime happened and clear my name. It was scary and a hassle. It is cleared but my name is filed under "alias" forever now and because of extensive background checks for certain employment some companies may not hire me. Pffft!
