Check out movies like American Sniper, Lone Survivor, and 13 Hours. These are military movies created from the true events as told by the soldiers who experienced the events while on their missions.

Of course, always check out the newest of Starwars like The Force Awakens and Rogue One.

For a lighter and animated touch, check out the movies Rise of The Guardians and Trolls. Both are good movies and more light hearted than the above movies. Have fun!

Thank you very much! (: Rise of the Guardians is a really nice movie. I took my cousin to go see Trolls and enjoyed it too. Haha. (: I haven't seen The Force Awakens or Rogue One, but I plan on it. I enjoyed American Sniper, but I have not seen the other two. Thank you for your response! (:

My favorite movie is Cloud Atlas and it has been for the past four years. However, not everyone seems to enjoy its multilayered story so you may or may not like it. But if you're into science fiction with a mix of mystery, historical fiction, and a bit of comedy all wrapped into a complex but compelling story line, then this is the movie for you! Plus the soundtrack is magnificent!

Some recent live action movies I've watched and thought were great are Hidden Figures, Dr. Strange, and Rogue One. Passengers I personally thought was pretty good but it didn't do so hot according to critics. I haven't watched Arrival however people seem to say that it's good. The exception would be my father who hated the movie. I've also heard La La Land is good.

Anime movies may not be something that's typically mainstream, however a recent one titled Your Name is hands down one of the best movies (not just anime but overall) I've ever watched. In terms of story telling, visuals, and everything in between, I would say that this is right up there with Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, and Howl's Moving Castle (which are other highly acclaimed anime movies you should watch!).

Some not so recent ones but ones that I enjoyed include Interstellar, Looper, Inception, The Matrix, Easy A, Mean Girls, The Harry Potter films, Blade Runner, Deadpool, If You Are the One (Chinese movie), Shadowless Sword (Korean movie), The Myth (Jackie Chan movie), Cocoon, Robot and Frank, the Toy Story movies, Minority Report, Fried Green Tomatoes, the Indiana Jones movies, Cast Away, Forrest Gump, The Terminal, House of Flying Daggers, Wall-E, Children of Men, Keeping Mum, Pride and Prejudice, Star Dust, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Of Mice and Men, Much Ado About Nothing, Lord of the Rings/Hobbit movies, Moana, The Gods Must Be Crazy movies, Gattaca, Ex Machina, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Fifth Element, 9, Serenity, Predestination, The Martian, Snowpiercer, The Departed, Catch Me If You Can, Groundhog Day, The Princess Bride, Shakespeare in Love, Finding Nemo, The Sound of Music, The Iron Giant, and The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. I'm sure I'm missing so much more but those are the ones I can think of right now. They're all from various genres (except for horror), so you may find something that you like!

Thank you so much for this! I have not seen Cloud Atlas yet, but it's on my watch list and I look forward to watching it soon! I enjoyed Doctor Strange, Arrival, and La La Land. La La Land is actually my personal favorite right now, I watched it with a friend. (: I haven't watched very many anime movies, but I plan on getting to those sometime soon as well. (: I have some of these on my watch list and more to add. (: Thank you so much!
