Potential returning user: Trying to make an account, but it won't allow me to sign up without going through social media first, can this be fixed? (I'll try again later)

There were other complaints besides yours in regards to this. I don't know what the answer is but I think it's to tie the accounts together and prove you're "legit" if I were to guess. So create fake accounts and link those together - that would be my answer!
