Ever wonder how different life would be if we didn't need to sleep?

I would imagine that our average work day would be 16 hours rather than 8 hours.

Mine would pretty much be the same. I average 3maybe 4 hours a night.

We would feel less tired if we didn't require sleep!

My answer sounds dumb but think about it...... it would be awesome to not feel tired all of the time!

As an engineer by training, I would assert that we'd live much shorter lives. All creatures who live without rest do.

Sleep is when the body heals itself. Absent that, the stresses on our recuperative powers would literally sap the life out of us. Being awake and active longer would present more chances of sickness and injury (also, crime and war), medical care would be in even more demand. I think the 'nonstop party' idea is vacuous, at best.

The demands we would put on the natural world for our food (we'd all need to eat more often), water, sources of power, and waste disposal would multiply. What about stress on the wallet to live 24/7?

Sorry to defecate on the parade, but in reality, this is not a promising venture.

I had initially approached this question with a positive frame (yay, nonstop rollercoasters), but further consideration led me to see the inherent problems in everyone being up, everywhere, all the time.

I posted a comment intended for you, Z, but since I just got up, I inadvertently posted it as an answer to the general question.

(I should wait until I wake up before I try to function.)

This is a free monthly publication that I have been getting for years.

It's a 4 to 6 page publication.

If you haven't seen it, you might enjoy it.

Coincidentally, there is an article related to sleep in the lasted issue.

Longer hours at work.

I quite like escaping to dreamland, I don't suffer pain, I can do things I wouldn't normally be able to do in reality, like fly etc. I think the only time sleep becomes a question (other when your not getting enough), is when you get older and time is not on your side. Funny enough the older we get the less sleep we get due to a lessening of melatonin.
