What is really meant by "food for thought"? If we eat spinach would we get healthy thoughts? What do we get if we eat ice cream pr burgers or pizza?
Fat? Gassy? Sleepy? Elevated cholesterol?
Ol' Popeye should have been an astrophysicist.
In a sense, "food" for thought IS something to "chew on", or "digest", to "see what comes out" ...though the metaphor admittedly does become rather unsavory in that context...
Food for thought.
Food is fuel. Meat and veggies are food for the body; ideas are food for thought.
Give me ice cream and I get happy!
