Should Blurtit start to encourage the real name username policy? it seems unfair that some users have real names whilst others don't.

I believe that you could encourage it but I don't think it would be a good thing if it were mandatory. I wouldn't change my username on Blurtit to my real name.

No, i dont believe so Mr. Tim and thank you for asking. ☺
My thoughts are everyone here knows "Yin" though that is not my real name of course. Just like we all know "Hippy" with his pizzas and "Otis" with his shine and "Dragonfly's" crock pot chicken. And "Danae's" first grandbaby and "Tiger and Echooos" are scrabble buddies. And "Walter" is our spam slayer. Etc... We are all a family out here, know each other by "name" even though it is maybe not our given name or birth name.... it's still a name. ☺

Yes it does, but if you want to build a rapport with users and make some friendships, a recognizable name must be used.

Thank you again for asking Tim. I actually did an "experiment" one time asking the same question as "anonymous" did a few hours prior but I used my name Yin who everyone knows me by. The responses were different as compared to the poster who asked the same question as "anonymous." With "anonymous" we all assume they are playing around so we play back with answers sometimes. When we use a username, people know we are genuine in asking. (Another example was a question I knew was very personal but I needed other people's thoughts. Had I asked "anonymous" I KNOW it would have been considered a troll question but because I asked as Yin they knew I was not trolling the question and the answers I got were from the heart and honest.

Originally I had my full name on here, but my parents didn't think that was a good idea, so I changed it to only have my first name. I think it should be an option, but I don't think people should have to use their names if they don't want to.

No they shouldn't Mr. O'Shea . . . And the reason is that some of us, might be sought out for our views, that might not be "Status Quo"

I always figure if somebody cared enough about my online views to seek me out under my real name, they'd probably invest the few minutes it would take to find my real name via my alias anyway. LOL

You could, but many of us would create a "fake" real name to use instead anyway. For example, on other sites I had joined that did require a real name, I used the name "Revan Snow" or "Revan Snow-Borne" as my real name instead of Corey Prohaska (I only put my real name here because this account is connected to my Google + account). Personally, a website feels less invasive if I can create an alias instead of my real name.

You can certainly encourage Anonymous users to join the site using their "real names", however, I believe that users can see the benefits on being an active participant on this site by how well the other members are treated. I wouldn't make it a mandatory rule that you have to use your real name on this site. I seldom use by real name on Social Media. It's for my protection and for my safety.
