Wet vac it
Please may I pick my blurtit friends minds! Any tips on how to dry out a kitchen where a water line burst and basically flooded the kitchen floor? (Besides towels and fans) Looks like now my WHOLE kitchen is trying to commit suicide by drowning itself! 😞
Towels and fans are your best option other than renting a carpet blower.
We experienced a broken pipe in the kitchen and yes it was a mess. We were not home at the time. We estimate the water was flowing at least three hours. The kitchen thank goodness is over a crawl space and not a basement. Once we had the water tunrned off we set off in several directions. One we rented a pump and pumped all the standing water out. We knew we didn't have enoush towels to soak it all up, so we purchased three large bundles of paper towels at the big box store. We called our neighbors and members of the church asking for the loan of fans. Once we had all the standing water up and out we would use the fans to try and dry out the room. We opened all the doors and windows of the house and it felt like a hurricane with 18 fans going full blast. As the day progressed we moved the refrigerstor out of the kitchen into the dinning room and plugged it in. We pulled out the stove away from the wall. We emptied the bottoms of all cabinets and loaded papertowels in them. The next day we moved the pump into the crawl space and pumped it as dry as possible. All in all it took four days of almost constant work. The kitchen dried out and then we wiped everything down with a water / bleach solution to try and prevent mildew etc. In the end the kitchen was the cleanest it had ever been.
Pull your base boards and toe kicks so you can dry off under them to prevent mold. I used a wet vac to get the water up. You can rent a heavy duty dehumidifier to suck the moisture out of the air.
Oh wow. I'm sorry that happened. Sounds like you've gotten great advice so far.
Here's my feeble attempt at making you laugh..... Clumping kitty litter ?
