The short answer is 0.2 tsp.  Now, taking that answer and completing a quick task is perfectly acceptable but what about the simple math?  It took all of 10 seconds to scan the conversion table and figure out you need 5 ml to make up a tsp and that means that a single ml is equal to 1/5 of a tsp.  That being said, not all are so quick and simple.  Finding a good basic conversion table to use and knowing how to read them will help you in any number of scenarios, some serious and some just for fun. You can even be your child’s hero for always knowing the answer for conversions and then showing them how to do it.

Knowing your abbreviations is important (cc = cubic centimeters, ml = milliliters, oz = ounce, tsp = teaspoon, tbsp = tablespoon) but knowing the mechanics of the charts is critical to using it.  First you have to locate the legend.  A legend is basically the instructions.

Knowing what things are will help you better understand the equation and translate it to real life terms.  Cooking convinced me to keep conversion tables on hand, and then I found hundreds of uses for them.  With decimals it’s money, with fractions it’s pie, with smaller measures, it’s cooking!  Throughout the years, societies have found ways to teach by finding similarities in our daily lives to compare and use as examples.  Math is no different.

This quick list will serve our purposes here:

1 cc = 1 ml (they are equal)
1 tsp = 5 cc = 5 ml
1 tbsp = 15 cc = 15 ml
1 tbsp = 3 tsp
1 oz = 30 cc = 30 ml = 2 tbsp = 6 tsp

As you can see by the measurements above, 1ml = 1cc = 1/5 tsp = .2 tsp
