Get a large board about a yard square and make a few little green trees to cover about the area of a coffee cup in one corner. Lay twigs and match sticks over the rest. You could paint them kinda light brown. Tell the teacher this is the state of the rain forest now after loggers have cut most of it down to make furniture and school books.
