Phloem is the connective tissue found in the plants. There are two kinds of connective tissues in plants including xylem and phloem. Xylem functions to transport water in plant body while phloem is responsible for the transportation of food in the plant body. For example, leaves prepare food during photosynthesis and phloem transports this food to the roots. When the food is stored in roots and the plant cells need food then food is again transported from roots to all cells of the plant body through phloem. Therefore, phloem plays a very important role in transportation of food.
