When acetic acid is reacted with a metal, acetate of metal and hydrogen gas is produced. Acetic acid is reacted with copper to form copper acetate. Hydrogen gas is evolved during this reaction. The balanced equation for the reaction is;

2CH3COOH + Cu ------ > (CH3COOH)2Cu + H2

Two moles of acetic acid react with one mole of copper metal to yield one mole of copper acetate and one mole of hydrogen gas.
