There are a number of superstitions based on black cats and, depending where you are from, they can be good or evil omens.

The fear of a black cat crossing your path is relatively recent and in direct contradiction with the ancient Egyptian’s reverence for the animals they domesticated around 3000 BC. All cats were protected by law from injury or death in Egyptian society. These cats were occasionally mummified and entire cemeteries dedicated to cats have been unearthed by archaeologists.

In England and Europe a dread of cats – particularly black ones – developed in the Middle Ages when cities were over-run with them. Alley cats became common and old ladies often felt compassion and fed them. During the era of witch hysteria the theory evolved that these women were witches and  read more...

What Are The World's Most Deadly Viruses?

 4 months ago - 1 answer

James_th
Viruses may be microscopic but they are prolific killers. There are more than 5,000 viruses known to man, and they are evolving every day. Medicine has been able to combat and eradicate some nasty little killers through the ages (such as smallpox and polio). However, there are still plenty of invisible beasties out there looking for their next victim.

Here is a list of the ten viruses that cause most human deaths globally per year. Details of the virus family and diseases that the viruses provoke are also included. All statistics on death rates are taken from World Heath Authority (WHO) virus data, unless otherwise stated.

Are Bulls Colour-blind?

 4 years ago - 5 answers

Yes bulls are colour blind. Since the seventeenth century fighting bulls have been bred on bull ranches. The animals go through several selection processes during their first three years, in which only those with the best stamina, courage, physical appearance, and coloration are selected for eventual combat.

Bulls never receive realistic training in preparation for combat. This is because they must, for symbolic reasons, be virginal regarding actual fighting experience. Also, because of their excellent memory, experienced bulls would be apt to develop tricky tactics rather than react just on the basis of raw courage and instinct as is expected.

Like all other cattle, fighting bulls are colour blind. The myth that a bull can see the colour red, is just that, a myth. Despite most bull-fighters  read more...

How Do You Handle A Bad Boss?

 3 years ago - 3 answers

Jomar
There is no legitimate reason, for your boss to be a "bad boss". If, you are a teenager, the first thing you should do is tell your parents exactly what is going on. Tell them what your boss has said to you, if you boss has touched you inappropriately, or even spoken to you rudely using inappropriate words/"bad words." Do not be embarrassed to tell your parents exactly what is happening: How, when, where, how many times and any other information, which will help your parents determine the next step.

The laws for employment of teenagers are very specific and bosses who break the laws, regarding treatment of teenagers will be punished severely for "treating teenagers badly". So, go talk with your parents and do not go to work again until you have talked with them and received guidance from  read more...

Do Cursed Items Really Exist?

 4 months ago - 2 answers

Susan_h
Folklore is full of tales of curses, afflicting victims who run afoul of magical incantations that inflict suffering and adversity on the foolish or unwary. From the mutterings of the abused gypsy to the warnings over King Tut’s tomb, curses can be found everywhere. Whether or not you believe in the power of the supernatural, there are some items with histories so tragic and strange, they have all been described as cursed.

The Hope Diamond

A stunning blue diamond of more than 45carats, the Hope Diamond has been part of more death, tragedy and drama than a career soap opera star. According to a legend that sounds like the plot of the next Indiana Jones movie, the diamond was originally part of a larger stone stolen from an eye of a sculpted idol of the Hindu goddess. Upon discovering  read more...
