Some of the hardware stores sell wood putty in the different wood colors. If the stand's area where it was damaged needs filling in, this would be your best bet, probably. I have seen people use bookshelves (not too tall,) but placing the tv on top, and all the components, dvds, cds, etc on the shelves below to keep all handy.
