As a young adult, I entered several
pageants. They are actually great
for your self esteem as well as be
an incentive for proper diet and
exercise. I never entered with the
goal of winning each and every one
but it was always great to bush up
on grace, talent , public speaking,
world events. I really just liked
the challenge, and the ability to
"dress up"...full hair and make up.

I think they help get the girls
noticed and can lead to a great
career.

 Beauty competitions increase
self-esteem.

Beauty lies within, there is no
product that can cover a darkened
heart.

I think that most of this is just
for the enjoyment of the parents.i
don't think any true valuable
lessons are taught to these
children,by encouraging then to be
judged by how cute they are.some of
these kids don't want to do it
because the parents are so
persistent for them to be perfect
and practice there routines ,thus
robbing them from enjoying there
child hood.

These parents that cake make-up on
their 5 yr olds face, apply false
eyelashes, spay them down with a
fake tan, tease their hair and then
add extensions so that they rival
Dolly Parton, pad their little
bras, teach them to come out in
bathing suits and priss around a
stage, shaking their little bodies
for the whole world to see, teach
them some of the world's worst
songs to be sang in a child's
nasally pitch...and yes, they are
only doing it to build their
self-confidence (?) They also need
to think of who they are exposing
their child to for public view and
there's a lot of crazies out there
that like to look at little girls
bodies...need I say Jon Benet.

 Competitions have their good and
bad sides. There have been
instances where there have been
some ruthless things in
competitions, especially pageants
involving children.

 Yes beauty pageants increases
confidence but that also can lead
to ostentatious, arrogant, and
rude people.

 Beauty competitions are exploitive,
and I also disagree that they lead
confidence which leads to success.
It all depends on what you mean by
success. BTW, did you hear about
Miss Teen America 2007? When asked
why she thought 50% of all
Americans couldn't locate the US on
a map, she said it was because not
enough people know how to use
MapQuest. It's going to take more
than confidence to make her a
success.
