 Yes! They have competitions and
the winners receive trophys. It has
become harder and harder and
requires the skills of a gymnist
and a dancer. Some of those
darlin' little dumplin's are
tougher than the tackles on the
football team.

I think cheerleading is a sport.
I've cheered since I was 5 and
since then I have gone to national
competitions every year. It takes a
lot of strength and skill to cheer.
In any other sport if you drop
something its just a ball or stick
in cheering its a person. If you
still don't thing its a sport go to
youtube.com and search cheerleading
worlds 2008 and watch some of the
videos

Not only is it a sport that
requires some skill, it can also be
a lifestyle. I am all about
cheering people on in their
pursuits of goals and other life
skills.

I think it is a sport. Have you
seen their competitions? They have
to do flips, jumps, and tosses that
most people wouldn't even try. It
takes a lot of training and stamina
to be a cheerleader.

Cheerleading IS a sport. If others
think not, then they have not been
a cheerleader!!

It is a sport. There is scoring
just like any other "sport". You
work hard, practice(cheering at
games is also practice, which is
what most people see and think that
is all there is to cheering), and
train just like every other
"sport". So why do you think it
isn't.

I'm not sure i would necessarily
say its a sport.. But it is an
activity that requires ALOT of
strength flexibility and rhythm..!
And a cheerleader IS AN ATHLETE
even tho it MAY not be a sport!

It is changed a lot in the past
decades, and become more gymnastic,
rather than just moving around, and
yelling.

Yes, it is a sport. Twenty years
or so ago I would have expressed a
different opinion, but I have been
to Cheer competitions, and to see
those girls, back flip, tumble,
Jump, kick, run, do somersaults, be
flipped in the air.... Yes its a
sport.

I think cheerleading is a sport.
There is a lot of physical work
required and I give them props.

I could never be a cheerleader. All
those splits and flips and kicks,
plus they have to smile and look
perky at the same time? Plus they
have to throw and catch each other.
Have you seen the muscles on some
of those girls? Cheerleading is
definitely a sport.

My daughter has been an all-star
competitive cheerleader for 6 yrs.
She's at the gym 5 nights a week
and works just as hard on her
routines as any other sport out
there. She competes with the best
of the best and is awsome!! I
would love to see anyone who says
it's not a sport go out there and
do what thease girls do.

I think its a sport becuase it
requires a lot of practice and has
high demand of body conditions.

I was a cheerleader. We had
practice just like all the other
school sports do. When you do
dancing or gymnactics it is called
a class. Cheerleading is called
practice.

Yes I agree, it is a sport, my 1
daughter did cheerleading up until
the age of 8th grade and it is alot
of work for these girls.
They went to compentions with other
pop warner football they are some
stenous excercise to this along
with 5 day woek outs when she did
this. In high School she was no
longer interested, but that was a
choice she made, so she went into
playing a few sporst. Yes

 According to Dictionary.com, the
definition of a sport is an
athletic activity requiring skill
or physical prowess and often of a
competitive nature, as racing,
baseball, tennis, golf, bowling,
wrestling, boxing, hunting,
fishing, etc. Personally I believe
that competetive cheerleading is a
sport, because you do compete
against other teams. However, the
teams of high schools, unless
competing against other school,
which is not typical, are not
sports.

It is a sport. My daughter cheered
for many years, and she worked hard
at it with all the gymnastics and
other aspects of todays
cheerleaders. A very competitive
sport.

All cheerleading is is stick girls
throwing fluffy balls around and
flirting. It is a waste of time and
moeny. Do a real sport.

As far as I am concerned if there
is no ball, stick or score it is no
sport! Just my opinion! I do
consider it a form of dance I mean
afterall Ballet isn't a sport!

 I do not believe Cheer-leading is a
sport. There is no olympic event
for cheerleading. I believe
Cheerleading is a bunch of
anneroxic girls wearing a short
skirt and barely a shirt yelling
and screaming until they can't
anymore, but thats my opion. It
sounds harsh, but some of my best
friends a r cheerleaders, so i
still like em'

 For now, it isn't a sport. It's
like dancing and singing.

 In my school, cheerleading isn't
even listed as a sport! They don't
go to competitions or tournaments,
they simply cheer on a team (at my
school at least.) Isn't it a dance
anyways. Dance isn't a sport.

I don't think that cheer leading is
a sport, even though they have
their own competitions and stuff,
because the crowd also cheers and
they aren't doing apart.

Cheerleading is NOT a sport. Sure
they have passion for it. But that
doesn't make it a sport. I'm a
volleyball player. At my school
cheerleaders are so Freaking'
annoying. Cause we are trying to
concentrate on something that's
important.

Alrigh yeah im the one that posted
this and i am pretty nutural but i
just wanted to c what other people
say some people i talk to say yes
and no. So just wondering. But of
course cheerleaders and their
parents or anything will say it is
a sport. It is hard and requiers
skills but do to other things that
arn't sports. Just because you get
trophies and have compations
doesn't make it a sport. Words
don't make a sport. But it just
hits me where all these girls get
glamed (like none other) and egt
judged on it while doing flipps and
stuff ha i can't do flips so i give
it to all the cheerleaders b/c it
is hard and i think it's good that
they do something. But still what
came first cheerleading or
gynastics?
