 The day that alcohol is banned, cigarettes can be banned!

Some peoplo won't be satisfied until our democracy is turned into a police state.

 I thought this was the "Home of the brave and the land of the free". Why even think about prohibiting these things. Although prohibition made a lot of people very rich. Maybe I could be a "bootlegger" if they ban alcohol and cigarettes.

 I want it to stop not only for me but also for the sake of others, would you believe that more or less 15% of the total air pollution came from the smoke of cigarette, and would it be much nicer if the next generation won't suffer on a more polluted world, we can also save 20 more years of the earths life and even the animals right, stop smoking..a

 Heroin is illegal, addictive and highly profitable...and once you're hooked on smack, you need smack every day. This has caused turf battles, lots of gang activity, plenty of murders...also dead users because there isn't a "standard" heroin, and there's not much difference between a dose that gets you high and one that kills you.

Now imagine the same situation multiplied by a thousand, or more--the ratio of Cigarette Fiends to Smack Fiends.

Can you imagine the underpinning a national Cigarette Gang would have if you banned cigarettes? The differences are plain enough: There are more people in America now than there were in 1919, more of those people smoke, and unlike cigarettes, most people who drank, if they really gave a damn about the law which they didn't, could put the bottle down fairly easily. Cigarettes, OTOH, are THE hardest addiction to break, and most smokers can't do it.

 I believe cigarettes shouldn't be banned because that's that wrong way to handle this problem. We have seen an example of this from alcohol. What I believe is there should be a higher sales prices/tax on these products. A government enforced one.....
I know we are a free country and all but DAMN!!! These are DRUGS and they cause harm to people who DO NOT use them. Cigarettes by second hand smoking and alcohol by reduced judgment and increased aggression. Why be a government that allows your people to kill themselves and others.

As for a response to those who say "Smokers are doing it to their own bodies so it's their choice" I say their rights end where another begins. Look for a place to draw the line. Puffing your clouds of toxic gas into the innocent passerby lungs is not very kind.

 I say.. Don't ban cigarettes.. There's a warning on the box.. There are warnings on TV on billboards, radio's and Ads everywhere.. There are hospitals full of people dying from cigarette related ailments.. If people are willing to risk their lives to do it then what makes you think the Govt. Can stop them?

 No, it will just go underground and only the bootleggers will make any money, and will create millions of "criminals" who are very decent people that are doing something that is legal. What kind of a sentence is a judge going to give someone for smoking a cigarette in their own place? We are letting the squeaky wheels run the country and having our rights taken away slowly and surely.

 I am against this, everyone has a right to smoke, just like everyone has rights. Give it up people. Nonsmokers just complain because of the media.

 I personally believe drinking and smoking is just as wrong as pot or heroin, except for one thing; just because I wouldn't doesn't mean you can't. It's called democracy. However, I believe it is highly irresponsible to drink and/or smoke around young children, having personally seen the devastating health effects.

 We don't spend enough money on law enforcement as it is, we need a whole new category of illegal substances for keep the economically productive practices of law enforcement and the prison system busy.

I've never been a smoker but I don't see any reason why an adult shouldn't be able to make their own choices. At the same time, I should have the right to decide on whether I'm going to have to pay for the health care of smokers, drunks, dopers, and the obese.

Frightening concept: Take responsibility for your own actions, let other adults live their lives as they see fit and live (or not) with the consequences.

 I do not think that cigarettes should be banned. If a person wants to smoke then let them smoke. It hurts them more than it hurts anyone else. I agree with the regulation on where you can smoke though. I think that those are alright.

 Pretty soon.. Everything will be banned. We wil be back to the 1920 make more crimanals out thier bootlegging like before.

We just have to teach our children right from wrong,
smoking will kill you, and instill in their heads what it will do , and if if you see youre teen and even older smoke, its still up to parenting skills to teach and guide youre children,
Then after a certain age they will either and hopefully take youre advice. None of my adult kids smoke, but I have seen some of their friends so I will also say to then, how unhealthy this is and they are still young so QUITE smoking

 I have a hard time stompping on peoples rights. People make an informed decision to do these things. If you don't like then don't do it, you have that right too. Seems people are becoming "control freaks" That is how revolutions start. If you don't like what America stands for move to a country that tells you what to do and when to do it. YOu may be happy with all those rules, I know I like to think for myself and make choices for myself.

also any age should never get behind a wheel after the intake acholol. It only takes one time where you will make a wrong judgement and something bad will happen to you or others and youre life will be destroyed.

 I am for the ban on cigerettes but not for alcohle. Small amount of alcohle is good for your heath and helps to relax. As long as you dont drink too much, it should be alright.

 Im not a smoker, but I dont want to give up alcohol. In moderation its an excellent way to relax / drink with food.

 Very true littlewren! Education is important when it comes to things that effect our health. Even with education, there will always be people who choose to smoke, drink to excess, overeat or otherwise live dangerously. Human beings will do what they will, laws or not. That is not to say that laws are useless, but legistlating morality or even common sense doesn't work.

 How can I answer both ways. If cigarettes were labeled properly and if the sale to minors was treated as harshly as alcohol, and if when kids were busted with cigs they had to go to a treatment center as with other controled substances I say leave it alone. Alcohol has been banned and it didn't work. People will alway just make bathtub gin, homemade whatever. Education is the key, that and enforcing the laws when it comes to minors. We don't really need more laws regulating morality. What adults do should be there problem. Many things cause death, it is the end result of life. Too much sugar, poor eating habits, junk food, all those things also lead to death.
