Absolutely agree with this. I don't
see why someone deserves £40 000 a
week to play a sport they enjoy.
It's rediculous, especially when
football these days is no longer
about the sport but the money. Read
the headlines, it's never about a
good game, it's about a player
being signed to someone else, or
someone getting sued, or how much
money a club has. Where's the real
heart in football gone.

I hate to tell you this but this is
the way sports and celebrity work
together. Welcome to
Capatilisim!
In the U.S. There are considered
to be four major sports. (Baseball,
Basketball, Football and, Hockey)
Every team knows where they stand
economically speaking. That is the
reason some teams are reffered to
as "small market teams" while
others are "large market" teams.
The Large market teams want,
desperately, to retain this large
market designation so they are
willing to spend huge amounts to
secure the best available talent to
this end. Is this right? Probably
not but it is how capitalism in
sports works.
That aside, Professional Athletes,
those who have achieved the Major
League levels in their sports have
invested their entire lives to
being Professional Athletes. The
season may only be a few months
long but the condition of the
athlete is a year round concern.
(Like Ben Rothlisberger's
motorcycle crash weeks before the
season opened) There are many who
desire this level but few who can
reach it. For this reason they are
compensated according to their
abilities and their willingness to
maintain the competitive level of
fitness for their "jobs".
Further, the carrer of an average
Professional Athlete is by any
standard consiberably short so
their earning potential is limited.
They have to assure that in the
event of a tragic accident that
could end this limited window of
oppurtunity, they have properly
seen to thei financial means.
Does this all sound like B.S.
Absolutely but that is how it works
in real life.
REMEMBER:
You buy the tickets!

Yes all sports players are getting
paid to much. It is kind of
rediculess that we pay them
millions while our teachers doctors
and nurses get paid so little.

I think that sports players should
get paid less than they do now. I
do not think that you should be
paid millions of dollars for
something that you love to do. In
my onpinion, people who actually
help the world, teachers, doctors,
policemen, firefighter, etc, should
be paid more than a football
player. They help our community war
more than a football player does.

I agree. Sorry to say this but
athletes do not risk their lives
for anyone. I believe that Police
officers, firefighters, our troops
should get paid more than the
athletes, because these are men and
women who risk their live everyday
so we can be safe.

I think all major sports, the
athletics are paid way to much
money, especially for something
that they really love to do, and
most ( sorry to say this) are men

 There are baseball players signing
$200million+ contracts. No football
player makes that. Judging from the
overweight baseball guys, I'd say
they're ma kin easy money.

 Football players (not footie) are
exposed to more dangers on the
field, so should get paid more.

 I think with IPL(Indian Premier
League) in view, cricketers are now
paid much more, making them see
heaven on earth.

Judging by how popular the sport
is, I would have to say "no". If
football wasn't so popular, the
athletes wouldn't get paid nearly
as much as they do now.

They have a huge event at the end
of the season, The Superbowl, and
that brings so much publicity! But
I think it is around the right
amount.

 No, cricketers are most paid
sportspersons. Now with IPL(Indian
Premier LEague) giving more money
and endorsements made them richer

Look at what those guys have to go
through. They practically risk
their lives out there just for our
entertainment. I think they get
paid what they deserve.

Athletes are paid a lot of money if
they perform and bring in revenues
for the owners. Their time on the
playing field is limited. There
are few super stars who have any
longevity. The average pro only
plays a few years and then is ill
equipped to do much else. Some
coach. Over a life time only the
really big name stars with all the
endorsements make the big money.

All sports players are paid way too
much, including baseball players
and golf players. Hwover, compared
to some other sports, like lacrosse
and swimming, which have just
started to get more money, football
pays too much. But we mustn't
forget that other sports pay a
bundle as well.
