George Steinbrenner has been a big
blowhard in the past. This is just
another example of his ridiculous
bravado.
Has any other major league manager
gotten his team to the playoffs
every season of his tenure? And
how can Torre be blamed for the
failure of players to perform?
Jeter has one of, if not the best,
post season record in baseball. Is
it Torre's fault that Jeter didn't
perform up to his usual standards,
or the fact that Wang choked?
Not only do the players love and
respect Torre, the New York fans
are on his side. The Yankees have
been drawing fans at phenomial
rates at home and on the road.
That may not last if Steinbrenner
starts jerking things around, and
Steinbrenner, after all, is a
businessman.
