Sadly the majority of kids do not
watch TV or lilsten to news on the
radio and it is important for them
to be aware of what is going on
with our country.

Yes, I think it is interesting.
However, they should teach them
that BUSH started the war, and it
was entirely for OIL. They should
also mention how we still did not
get Osama Bin Laden, our true
enemy, while Saddam Hussein isn't.

 Yes, they should.

Why shouldn't it be, if we don't we
might as well take all of the other
wars out of the text books, then we
can all just pretend nothing
happened... Come on everyone should
know the past of their country.

Of course they should be taught,
but it should be framed in a manner
that prevents teachers from
teaching their own personal
political opinions. Teaching -
Yes. Indoctrination - No.

Yes by all means, its part of our
future and history.

 Schools should be dealing with
current events as well as history,
and don't current events become
history?
I think you would be shocked to
know the number of Americans who
can't even find the United States
on a map of the world. They don't
know where the Atlantic and Pacific
Oceans are. Those are only a few
things they can't locate on a map.
Teaching current events, and that
includes the conflicts in the
Middle East, should be a regular
part of our schools' curriculum.
For such a privileged society, we
can be awfully ignorant. That
really must change.

You have a very wise mother.
In no time at all, you will be
dealing with people from all over
the world daily. No longer can you
live in your little cave and ignore
what is happening outside. Those
days are long gone. Lack of
knowledge will put you in a
distinct disadvantage in a
geo-political world economy.
Our school system will probably be
too slow to implement changes to
keep up. You will have to do it on
your own. You don’t have to
understand everything that is going
on, but do make yourself aware of
major events. Get used to that
“language” by watching world
news on TV, read magazines and go
on the Internet. Our world is
evolving in ever-increasing speed.
In 25 years, it will be a very
different world, unrecognizable by
your parents and teachers. Be
prepared for it.

Yes of course... The USA's children
will grow up ignorant of the world
around them if they aren't taught
Current Events (that includes the
war).
It's happening to our students with
the geography of the world...Most
kids/teens can't label most of the
countries in the world or speak
more than one language. However, in
China, Europe, etc. You can give a
student a world map and they would
give you most, if not all, the
countries in the world.
Just because Americans are rich and
have good lifestyles, doesn't mean
they can turn into mindless,
self-centered idiots

 Schools shouldn't teach what's
going on, but give children
practice in analyzing what's going
on for themselves.
