Soul Food Should Not Be Banned!
For
Every Year, Many Americans Suffer From Obesity Because Of Soul Food. Several Studies Also Pointed Many African-American Obese To Them Eating Too Much Soul Food. Although I Believe Soul Food Is One Of The Main Causes Of Weight Gain In America, But I Do Not Think It Should Be Banned. What Do You Think? Do You Agree With My Reasoning Or Do You Disagree?

Ebery type of food has its negative if eaten too much. To ban sould food would be like banning a culture. Just be responsible and eat good portions. Mexican food is equally as fattening and just as much acause of obesity.

A food should not be banned unless it is proven toxic ... Not just cause its deadly from people over eating.

Why just ban soul food? Everyone has a food they like and if it sells then people have the right to sell it to the public.

People need to be responsible for their own health issues. There are many types of food that aren't healthy for people, but they eat it anyway, fast food being one of the top offenders. The key to staying healthy is eating in moderation, whether it be soul food, Italian food, kosher food, Mexican food, EVERYTHING THAT TASTES GOOD! And, no, soul food should not be banned...before long we will become a communist nation if we're not careful!

If a person wants to eat it them let it be sold. You are in charge of what you eat and no one else. Sell it, not ban it.

We can't ban soul food. I think we need to educate people into eating moderately in all types of food.

Who's trying to ban soul food? We cannot ban everything that's not good for us. Americans are free to make their own choices whether or not what they choose is not in their own best interest. This is not a police state!

Obesity is common in lower income communities, because less expensive food is often starchier, fattier and higher in calories than the types of food higher income folks can afford.

I doubt that soul food is one of the main causes of obesity in our country so I don't agree with our reasoning. I do, on the other hand, agree that it should not be banned.

I'm from the south and soul food is the best. We know how to grow and pick our own greens, full of vitamins and good stuff. Don't even think about serving a green bean "al dente" down here, you'll be laughed at forever. One of the many causes of obesity is processed foods and the addition to high fructose corn syrup to many drinks. I grew up on KoolAid, with real white sugar, with no weight gain, as did most of my friends in my age group. Soul food consists of real food. Don't eat anything your grandmother wouldn't recognize. My husband jokingly says that it is the fat and cholesterol that makes it taste good, but he grew up on southern country cooking and at 58 is the picture of perfect health, weight, and looks 20 years younger than he is. My Granny taught me how to cook soul food and she died of old age at 91. She never had nothing she didn't grow, clean, and cook herself. Hams were stored in the smokehouse, veggies and fruits canned for the winter, so we always had plenty, and I never knew how poor we were. I still cook soul food, but am not narrow minded, so I cook a lot of things she might not recognize, but the ingredients are still fresh. Food is essential, so there should be no ban, what a person chooses to cook in their own home is their business. If it's fresh green beans, fried squash, sliced tomatoes, oven brown potatoes or potato salad, deviled eggs, fresh greens cooked with fatback (not these yuppie "steamed kale" dishes--that don't count), invite me over!

No, in fact I do not agree with your reasoning, nor your stance on this issue. You begin by explaining that soul food is "bad" because it causes obesity but then you divulge that you do not feel it is to be banned. So are we to determine that we should not ban things that you feel are bad? I think perhaps you could reorganize your thoughts and when you have a strong stance in the matter, post this one again. Good luck.

I don't think that any cultural or other food should be banned, unless it is proven toxic.

I am against it i am from the south and you know we love some soul food why would you want to ban it? You can be over wt. And just be eating to much food. Soul food has nothing to do with anyones wt. Problem it is over eating and lack of exercise.
