 I am a firm, born-again Christian
and I am a little uncertain about
Pullman's novel and movie: "The
Golden Compass." Basically, it
conflicts with my religion, so I am
not really a fan of it...

 They are thoughtful books, very
well written, and make people
THINK, which is far more demanding
of the brain than just "believing"
or not. For that he should be
congratulated.

Well I'm voting on this side
because there is no debate here -
for or against what exactly? I've
read all 3 books and would quite
like to see the film. I am not a
Christian and I fail to see what is
so anti-religious about the books.
They are fantastic stories in the
usual genre of goodies and baddies,
children versus grown-ups, reality
and non-reality. Why do people get
so worked up every time someone
writes something which isn't the
Bible?

I have never read these books, nor
have I read any Harry Potter and I
will not all ow my kids to read or
see the movies. They all go
completely against our Christian
faith. And about some character
trying to "kill" God? What is that
about? No one can ever even try.
Yes, people killed His Son Jesus,
but even that didn't hold out for
long! He rose from the dead in 3
days! If you people want to read
exiting books, try the Left Behind
series -- or why not try the
BIBLE?
Yes, Harry Potter! When a
book/movie teaches so much about
wizardry and wicthcraft, what else
should I think?

I am an atheist and do not feel
that the movie or book was atheist
or that the author intended them to
be! He just created a fictional
World and let the story play out
that is it! People always see
controversy in things that are not!
