No one, be it an individual or the
state, should have the right to
take the life of another sentient
human being for any reason. There
is something deeply troubling and
morally corrupt about the
"eye-for-an-eye" argument. We,
both as individuals and
collectively as a society, have
progressed past such barbaric
practices.

I have voiced my objections to
capital punishment over and over
again. It is nothing more than
state-sanctioned revenge. It does
not deter crime, and it costs the
state more than incarceration (but
that's not a reason I object to
it).
I believe that the loss of one''s
personal freedom has to be the
harshest form of punishment we can
impose on an individual who has
been able to do as he pleased
during his life.
I rarely invoke religion, but for
those who do, "Thou Shalt Not Kill"
didn't come with exceptions.

I believe that giving the death
sentence is wrong. It's like trying
to fight fire with fire.

I cannot see cash savings arguments
as a measure for purposes of
equalizing harm:
Revenge/avenging/punishment and
anger cannot be resolved through
punishment. It does not resolve
it.
In terms of morality, the logic of
revenge is non existent. It is
emotive, not logical, and even
removal of the harmer seems logical
- it does not remove the harm done
and is not only illogical but
appears also immoral.

Who are we to judge and play God?
Thou shall not kill. I can see
putting them in jail and keeping
them from harming others, but let
them live. Some can change if they
want to and deserve a second
chance.

Most prisons are like holiday camps
with tv,computer games gym and the
list goes on ,why should they have
any creature comforts !! ? Do the
crime ? Do the time ? And if its
serious enough to deserve the death
penalty they should be executed

The main reason it costs so much
money to put a convicted murderer
on death row has very little to do
with the sentence the convicted
receives. If anything it costs as
much as it does to apply the death
penalty because of the number of
appeals and the chronic back and
forth, tit for tat chess game that
goes on between the state and the
defense of the convicted. It's not
just appeals, it's the motions for
delay, it's the requests for
clemency it's pushing the date of
execution back over and over again
until a convicted murderer that
should have been terminated 3
months after sentencing has been
sitting there for 20 + years with
no set date in sight. THATS why it
costs so much to put somebody on
death row. Here's an idea, don't
complain about the cost, complain
about the amount of appeals and
second chances these people are
getting. Their victims SURELY were
not given the same option.
And as far as the state sanctioned
revenge point goes, screw the
state. Why not ask what the
victim's family wants? You cannot
use the words "morally corrupt" to
describe the punishment designated
for actions that have NO moral
value. If someone decides to
violently take 1 life or many,
then that person has given up their
rights to be treated as a human. At
that time, we as a society are no
longer executing a person, we are
excising a malignant cancer.
It's also true that there is no
proven link between the death
penalty and violent crime
prevention. Then again, if you take
that road you have to admit that
there is no proof that the death
penalty does not prevent violent
crime. It all depends on where you
do your research. I will also point
out that executions and capitol
punishment used to be public. I'm
pretty sure that if it still was
there would be a noticeable decline
in violent crime.

I feel that when you murder someone
then you must get the Death
Sentence. You didn't think about
the other person when you decided
to kill that person so why should
it be any different for the person
who committed the crime. We use to
have the Death Penalty in our
country and it worked perfectly.
It was definitely a deterrent. The
problem is laying with your Justice
System. We never had people
sitting in jail waiting to be
sentenced for so many years. If
you murder someone and all the
evidence points to you then its
time to go. If you raped, steal or
commited any kind of fraudulent
acts then you get jail sentences.
It worked perfectly until they
decided to take the Death Penalty
away, now it is a feast for
criminals.
Our jails are so full now that they
had to build two more jails now to
take all the criminals. Murderers
have a royal time in jail. The
criminals that commit crimes like
steal, rape and so on, stay in jail
for about three to four weeks and
then they get released because of
jails being to full just to commit
the same crime and be back in jail
a week later. To murder someone
here is even better.
Explain this to me. Someone forget
to pay his TV licence. The
Inspector comes to his house and
give him a fine of R1000,00 but the
guy that murder someone gets
released on bail for R500,00 which
is R500,00 less than the guy that
didn't pay his TV licence. So what
did I tell this guy. "Maybe you
should have killed the Inspector in
that way you would have paid
R500,00 and no more irritating
Inspector to bother you".
It is so bad here that you don't
drive at night. I had to install
security systems in my house and
they still got in while I was
sleeping and had to put beams in on
the outside of my house now as well
and they still came back but at
least they couldn't come in my
house. So you tell me which one is
the better life.
Here it cost us more to keep them
in jail then to kill them

 The prisoner that has killed
whether done with a vehicle while
drunk or they used a weapon to
kill. The prisoner needs killed as
well. A life for a life taken.
There is no reason to spare ones
life for killing another life.

I am for it 100%. Eye for an eye.
There should be no appeals and a
short time in jail. ONLY for the
cases where the accused are 100%
guilty through admission or multi
witnesses

I think there should be death
penalty's for only the clear cut
cases of Murder, terrorism, and for
serious crimes to minor children.
The population continues to get
larger and larger, and more people
are being locked up. We should
concentrate on those that can be
rehabilitated and released
eventually to become productive
citizens. Murder's don't value the
meaning of life, and don't deserve
to continue living on this earth to
destroy anything else.

There are some that it is known
they are responsible for their acts
on inhumanity against man! Such as
Jeffrey Dahlmer! Child rapist that
kill these poor kids after abusing
them to death! I knew a man who
had a 13 year old daughter that was
raped for days and then as the
killer stated killed her like a
deer! People like this have no
conscious or remorse. They are not
human but have truly crossed the
boundaries and will never be human.
These individuals are not fit for
life nor should they be given even
a second of breath beyond this one!
This is limited however as there
are those that it is questionable
of their association and it is a
tough decision but having known
what some do and that they are
busted with no doubt of their
guilt! They should be killed on the
spot!
This is of course only after years
of appeals and plead outs and
reduced charges. Individuals that
are on Death-row are there for the
better of us all a reason. It takes
years for an individual that is
sentenced to a capital crime does
not happen unless the inmate
request it's execution which still
takes time. Timothy McVee was the
fastest that I have ever seen.
