It has come to my attention that many users are experiencing problems with the banned words list. If you have encountered a problem please post the details here.

Lic k me in a sentence is not allowed as i discovered when i talked about letting a dog lic k me. By spacing the last letter i can use it. So it seems a pointless exercise to ban it.

What is offensive about the word lollypop when it is spelled with an "i" instead of a "y"? Just curious, really.

"come about" was recently tagged as an offensive phrase. Was used as "if this were to come about"

Hi, Im aware that the system currently has some flaws, and sometimes perfectly innocent remarks and comments get flagged. I am currently looking at ways we can improve this process. The main reason this has not been resolved earlier is due to the size of the list, which has to be worked through. This is a priority, and i will post back here once we have made some changes.

John we know each other, and mutually respect each others higher Intellect. Having said that. Why do the people of the fine country of England wish to shove the Queen;s version of English, and it's Dialect, down the throats of the Americans on Blurtit, and not allow us even the smallest part in this decision! For their is not even one American on the Staff! And this is not even Democratic in any way, CUZ!
If Blurtit is planing on using this very large market, and their actions say their are, Then anyone like yourself would have to agree that this is a very strong point, Cuz!
And how do you expect me to discuss words that are not even allowed to be on this page, Cuz

Hi Logic, thanks for your continued feedback.
I would like to make it clear the that the list has many imperfections which i am aware of and trying to remedy, it contains words which in some contexts can be used abusively and in other contexts are completely innocent ( that true from a UK and a US perspective). It is a huge list with thousands upon thousands of phrases and words.
I completely understand users frustrations regarding this, while i am a member of the Blurtit team I am also a user and have experienced the problems first hand.
We have a solution to the majority of issues, which we are presently working on, this is a priority and it should be completed soon. Thanks for your patience

How can you develop something to do with the American Dialect and not have even in American on the Staff is over my head, and you understand more than most that would be definitively hard to do, unless it involved the British Dialect!
I feel at your accepted level of Intellect you can see what I'm saying, Cuz!

Tonight, I was thinking of asking you if the dialect of the two countries is at the root of this problem? For Blurtit has made a lot of Americans very MAD! I know in physics debates PhD's from England have made me very mad not meaning to, in fact they were with me some!

I emailed my British friend with a list of some of the words being blocked, and not ONE was an offensive IN THE QUEENS ENGLISH and in her country! So the list is useless even in Kindergarten! YET it is shoved down our throats! This is the epitome of it JOHN!

If you recall, I asked a question about a user filter. Even on Internet Explorer under internet options in Tools, a user can determine what kind of content they don't want to receive. Seems this could be easier than going through a list with thousansd of words and phrases. I agree there are some words that should not be permitted at all, but there are many others that have become part of the vernacular and are not offensive to anyone.

Hi robbier44, thanks for your suggestion.
The problem with filters are they rely on the users to activate them, also if someone is determined to use offensive words they would still be able to do so and effectively that could reduce the amount of content on the site which people could view who are using a filter.
There is also the other matter of the overall quality of the site would fall.
The system we are going to trial, is based on the present list with a few changes to the way we deal with the approval / disapproval process. Essentially after you have tried to make a post, if the system finds a word that is on the banned list, it will give you the opportunity to edit your post or send it to a moderator for a manual review, every time something is sent for a review we will look at the word and its context. If the word is deemed to be ok and not offensive we will modify the list and approve the post. This process would be ongoing to constantly improve the banned word list. When sending a review request you will be able to include a comment directly to the moderator to state your thoughts.

John, that's a more reasunable idea. Just so you know, even with a filter I wasn't advocating allowing Blurters to ren amuck.

Should the word "crap"e on the banned words list? Maybe it's my personal orientation, but this is the mildest slang meaning bunk. It isn't equivalent to the word "SHIT" or "BULLSHIT" which are seen as approved routinely in debates and elsewhere. I'm just wondering why it was censored for review and if it should be. Maybe my morality and sensibility sensors are all skewed, but I don't think so.
