    A Sites and Monuments Record or SMR is a list or catalogue of sites and monuments which are thought to be of interest to archaeologists, historians and other related professions. Sites and Monuments Records are not restricted to these professions and any one can view them.
    The records cover sites and artefacts from the earliest times to the present day.
    They are compliled such bodies as County Councils, CPAT, (Clwyd Powys Arcgaeological Trust) and other relevent bodies.
    They list all noteworthy information for specific areas, they list the monuement, find or type, the Ordenance Survey reference, the period in which the site etc was constructed, any related finds and ffeature and notes on articles or comments and bibliographies.
    Most of the Sites and Monuments Records for England and Wales are now online and searchable.
    Try ads.ahds.ac.uk at Archaeology Data Service for the area you are interested in.
