What Does Lye Mean?

    The word 'lye' is attributed to a kind of chemical that that is used in several industrial processes; you can find its use in glass, in soap making and some kind of food preparations also.
         
    Primarily, there are two kinds of lye that existed today. The first one is called Sodium hydroxide or soda lye and another one is called potassium hydroxide or potash lye. But the first is the only one which is most commonly used and seldom can you find the use of the second one.  
          
    There are some places also that are known to the world with the name of 'Lye' and
    most of them are located in Europe. There is Lye in the West Midlands region of England and also a commune in the Indre departement of France is known to the world with the same name.
