Actually these days changing the CV joint is not often done. Instead the entire driveshaft is replaced as an assembly.
There are many different CV joint designs, most common is the Rzeppa joint. In any case there are circlips that have to be removed to remove the joint from the shaft.
And as with the CV joint procedure to remove the driveshaft assemblies is often different for different cars. What car do you have?
