UNICEF stands for United Nations Children's Fund. It is a subsidiary of United Nations. It is an organization that was created specifically for the Children around the world, keeping in view the fact that children are the future of the world.

UNICEF was established on December 11, 1946 by the United Nations General Assembly. It's basic aim was to provide health care and food to the countries affected by World War II. It has its headquarters in New York and is currently, working with governments and Private agencies for improving the quality of life of mothers and children of the world.

The current President of UNICEF is Ann Veneman. She holds the post of Executive Director and was appointed by the UN secretary General Kofi Annan on 18 January, 2005. She has served as the United States Secretary or Agriculture in the Bush Administration.
