    There is no capital of Dublin for Dublin is the Capital of the Irish Republic.
    The name Dublin  derives from the Gaelic Dubh Linn or the black pool. It was also named  Baile Átha Cliath which means - The town at the ford of the reed hurdles, refering to the settlement founded by the High King Mael Sechnaill in 988 at the mouth of the river Liffey. It's been the capital of Ireland since the medieval period.
    Figures from the 2006 census give the population of the Greater Dublin Region as 1,661,185. The population of the area which is controlled by Dublin City Council is 505,739 and Dublin Region 1,186,159
    Names for people from Dublin are Dubliners, Dub or Jackeen.
    It is a vibrant capital city with a great cultural heritage and is rated as the 4th most visited city in Europe with around 4million visiters each year.
