Is Soundcard A Peripheral Device? Why?

Is soundcard a peripheral device?why?

A sound card in a pci slot should be considered a peripheral as it is not necessary for the PC to function.  If it is a warranty issue, and the card is original equipment, I would consider it an integral part.

Strictly speaking, I would say no because it is not necessary for PC's to function, but for warranty purposes, I would say yes if it is original equipment.
