    On the African of Mauritius in November 2004 the first Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) network was launched. In South Africa in December 2004. The UMTS was launched by Vodacom who also launched its Third-Generation (3G) cellular radio system services in South Africa in December of the same year. In June 2005 MTN began in South Africa. South Africa now rates about 23rd in telecommunications growth in the world.

    Siemens Telecommunications in Africa is one of the largest global telecommunications companies in the industry. In 2005 this company reported and income of 13 billion euros, and had 54, 500 employees in 160 countries.

    The Siemens company invests in training disadvantaged persons and actively promotes employment and advancement among people of different races and backgrounds. In attempting to undo previous imbalance in development of people through training and education Siemens contributes large amounts of money to various humanitarian efforts in Africa.  As of the first quarter of 2007 the company will become the Nokia Siemens Network.

    Today the Congolese Wireless Network, the first GSM network in the Congo owns 49% of Vodacom Congo.  With full coverage in 198 towns and cities with over 2,000,000 subscribers, Vodocom Congo now offers Internet access through two separate systems. Their goal is provide both national and international internet services throughout all of Africa.
