What Do You Think Is The Reason For India's Defeat At The ICC World Cup 07?

The reason for India's defeat to Sri Lanka in the World Cup 2007 has been the subject of national debate. There are a few reasons that a careful analysis has thrown up.

The first reason is that Sri Lanka is a better side than India currently. They have a better bowling attack than India, indeed probably the best attack among all the teams competing currently. An attack that boasts of Vaas and his fast boling partners, along with off-spinner Murali, with the fast bowlers usually being good enough to have Murali come in to bowl later, is a tough proposition.

Secondly, the Indian batting line-up has been pathetic in recent times. Except on odd days, none of them have functioned as a unit. Every one of them has been scratchy. The inability of all of them to function together has been the key. They lost to Bangladesh, and the more rational would have expected a tough battle in the Sri Lanka game. They are no pushovers.

In many ways, our attitude in the Bangladesh game is the bigger culprit - we were overconfident in that game. We expected them to roll over. They didn't and instead bit back. The after-effects of that bite are there for all to see.

The only reason for India's defeat in the World Cup is that the senior players had not taken the responsibility on their shoulders to lift up the game tempo. They are nervous starters and they were puzzled all the time in two games against B'desh and Srilanka.In my opinion they lost the world cup right from the defeat against Bangladesh.

The main reason is in the World Cup, the first match of India with Bangladesh. Indian Players played with over confidence as Bangladesh is a very small team and they thought they could win easily. Due to this overconfidence, all the players except Ganguly played negligently.
In another match with Sri Lanka, they had not estimated the opponent's strength and not well planned. For the above reasons, the Indian team came back to India and disappointed all Indians.
