When Was Mansfield Town Football Club Founded?

    Mansfield Town Football Club was founded in 1897, but was originally known as Mansfield Wesleyans, due to the fact that it's players were part of the Wesleyan Church in the local area.
    In 1910, the team decided to name itself after the local town and became Mansfield Town Football Club. This caused some bad feeling with another local team named Mansfield Mechanics.
    Mansfield Town's long-standing nickname is 'the Stags'.


    Mansfield Town has played at the historic venue of Field Mill since 1919. The ground upon which this stadium stands has been used to play football on since the 1860s and is thought to be one of the oldest football grounds in the world. It has a current capacity for approximately 10,000 people.

    Mansfield Town Football Club currently play in the League Two division. In the 2005/06 season, the club finished in 16th place in the table.
