How Do Light Bulbs Work?

The light bulb is an artificial source of light that works on incandescence. An electric current is sent across through the thin filaments, which in turn heats the filaments to produce light.

The glass bulb surrounding it prevents the oxygen available in the air to reach the hot filaments, which would other wise get destroyed by oxidation. Incandescent bulbs are also know as electric lamps, the advantage of incandescent bulbs are that they can fabricate different range of voltage from few volts to several hundred volts.

Bulbs usually have a glass enclosure around them which comprises of vacuum or is packed with low-pressure noble gas. Bulbs also have a glass mount inside, which gives support to the filaments and permits the electricity contacts to pass through without causing gas or air leaks.
