    Richard Benjamin Spek was born on the 6th of December in the year 1941 in Kirkwood, Illinois, United States of America. He was basically an American mass murderer who was responsible for the deaths of eight student nurses in South Chicago Community Hospital in Chicago, Illinois on the 14th of July in the year 1966. As a child spec had a step father who used to beat him up. He started drinking at the age of 12 and later started taking drugs as well. He was a poor student at school. As a teenager Spek was involved in small and petty crimes and was never convicted however he was arrested numerous times for various offences.

    On the 14th of July in the year 1966, Spek broke into the South Chicago townhouse and took hostage eight student nurses namely Gloria Davy, Patricia Matusek, Nina Schmale, Pamela Wilkening, Suzanne Farris, Mary Ann Jordan, Merlita Gargullo and Valentina Pasion. Spek kept them hostage for hours repeatedly beating them up, raping them and eventually stabbing them to death. What he was not aware of that there was a ninth person in the room another nurse by the name of Corazon (Cora) Amurao who was a friend and was there to spend a night. She watched the complete episode while she hid under the bed terrified. Cora testified at the trial and on the 21st of November in year 1972 Spek was sentenced to 1200 years in prison. He died in prison when he was 49 years of age due to a heart attack.
