How Long Do Betta Fish Live For?

Answer Question

4 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

Depends on their living space. Most bettas that are kept in a bowl with no heater or water pump do not live much longer than a year or so if you are lucky. Personally I would never keep a betta in a cup or bowl or plant vase. They are best kept in an aquarium with a heater and an airpump to circulate filtered water. I have seen bettas live for over 4 to 6 years if kept in healthier conditions such as a small tank with proper filtration.

My Betta just died 2 days ago, I had him in a regular bowl, for a little over three years. They are hardy fish, keeping them in a bowl doesn't affect them whatsoever.

My betta lived for about 6 years before he died. I kept him in a ten gallon aquarium along with a filter and a heater. They tend to live longer when taken care of like mine was rather than in a bowl or vase.
