The owner of the much loved racehorse Best Mate was Jim Lewis. As well as Best Mate, he has trained other horses including Edredon Bleu.
Trainers Henrietta Knight and Venetia williams frequently work with him as well as jockey Jim Culloty who was riding Best mate at Exeter before the horse collapsed and subsequently died of a suspected heart attack in 2005.
His horses wear the colours of claret and blue, the same as those of his favourite football club Aston Villa.
Jim's wife died after a seven year battle against cancer on December 8th 2005, 2 days before the ashes of Best Mate were scattered next to the finishing post at Cheltenham race course.
