How Long Is The Cleethorpes Pier?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

Cleethorpes Pier is just 335 feet long. Built in the 1873, the pier's original length was 1,200ft. Cleethorpes became a popular resort for the towns of Yorkshire and Lancashire. The promenade originally cost 8,000 pounds and was funded by the railway companies that served the towns of Sheffield and Manchester and Lincolnshire County.

The pier was constructed with a timber deck and steel piles for support. A pavilion was added in 1888.

In the 1980's the pier was bought by a business man who opened a modern night club on it. A large section of the Pier was cut off during the Second World War to thwart the Germans in case of invasion. Today, at just 335ft, it is UK's shortest pier.
